August 6, 2008—Garlands and door knobs
I had my assistant put up a little fence in front of our woodpile. It looks like it is going to be there for a while and I just didn’t want it to become an eyesore. The four posts near the water tank have fencing stretched between them. In the fall, I will plant some climbing roses or other climber to cover the fence and disguise our woodpile.
Here is the latest view of the house from below. You can see the brackets on the clerestory windows if you look closely.

Here is part of our infrastructure, two of the main electrical junction boxes, with all the guts hanging out. I had asked the electricians to hook up the phones to the barn and guest cottage. For various technical reasons, I need to get a land-line installed to be able to test the gate controller, and need it sooner rather than later. Plus, we will be moving in soon and need at least one land-line installed.

The phone lines have turned out to be rather an ordeal. First of all, the wires had not been pulled to the cottage or barn, much less the house. When the electricians tried to put them through the designated conduit, they could not get the wires through because of some stubborn obstruction. They worked ’til the end of the day and decided to come back to it Friday.

My assistant set up our little table and chairs under the awning by the cottage. This area looks pretty barren, but soon I will be bringing all my pots up from my old garden and we will be setting up a nursery for them here until the house is complete and they can be set out around it.
