August 31, 2007—Sewer complete, grade-beam cages in progress

Here is a great view of a stack of rebar where you can see how thick it is. I didn't measure it, but I have a good eye for measurement from my print media days, and this rebar must be an inch in diameter.

On the way to the job, I drive by a new freeway overpass being built. The lane has to merge with several other lanes at that point, and going by so slowly has given me an opportunity to observe their concrete pour and compare things like cage structure, rebar mat, void form—things that I have never had an interest in before.

This is turning into an obsession . . .

Here is the cage being laid out. Jasmine has the bars on the saw horses and her measurements chalked out on the rebar where she will tie her cross pieces.

Here is an almost completed cage.

Here is a close-up of the tied cross-pieces. If you look closely, you can see the little tie-wires at each intersection in the cage.

Once the cage is complete, it is set in place. Here you are looking at the cage which will be under the eastern grade-beam by the laundry room. The pipe is for the washing machine drain.

I took one last picture after everyone left . . .
