August 2004—Moving the big rocks from the barn pad

Here is how the big rock looked when it was unearthed. You can see that it is just about where the guest cottage bedroom is now.

Here is the rock being moved to its new spot. You can also see Jim (in the blue shirt) watching the process.

The rock arrives at its new spot. I was worried that it would just slide down the gully, but it didn’t.

Voila! (Looks kind of naked, doesn’t it?)

I guess the grader was also worried about the rock sliding away. He got out of the bulldozer and into the excavator and shoveled dirt around the rock to stablize it.

We need more rocks to make it look natural, so here comes one. This one is small enough that the excavator can just pick it up in its bucket.

Here it is being placed with the original rock.
Here is the final arrangement.
