March 28, 2007—Things get started . . .
. . . earlier in March, the daffodils were blooming,

the pond was full,

and we got started with construction.

Here are the grading guys doing finish grading on the pad for the barn and guest cottage before digging the footings.

The fence guys get to work. We are fencing a good portion of the upper part of the lot to keep deer out and to help us lower the tick level—which is very high. The fence will also help with security on the job site.
Looking through the new section of fence, you can see the work being done on the barn and guest cottage pad. Where the trucks are parked is where the house will be built.

Here Keith Soreng's gate guys install the new gate. It will have a keypad that we can program via computer when the phone line is installed. Eventually, we will be able to assign you all your own codes—something that you can easily remember—instead of having everyone use the same code. Cool, huh?

By the way, I can't say enough good things about Keith Soreng and his company Golden Gates.

The gate will have a magnetic lock, which will make it very secure. The down-side is that you need a remote to walk out the gate because the exit loop in the driveway will only read something that is large and metal.
