September 26, 2007—Tubing for radiant heating is laid

Here are some items I bought for the house while I was in New Mexico.

This is a punched tin panel about 12" square, which I bought to show the cabinet maker. We will have panels in some of the cupboard doors made out of punched tin and when I tried to describe it to one of the cabinet makers, he did not quite get it. Show and tell is always better.

This is one of the sconces I bought to go on either side of the front door. The top has some curvy holes which the sales person at the store assured me would cast pretty light shapes on the ceiling when these are lit.

They are made in Mexico but UL listed, so can be installed without trouble by the electrician. They are about 15" high.

This photo doesn’t show up very well here but I am buying that chandelier in the middle for the dining room. It is made out of tin and has 10 arms and is about a yard in every direction. It looks very heavy, but being made from tin doesn’t weigh that much. It has finish: shiny (as opposed to finish: pewter) and is very grandiose and silly at the same time. I love it.

I took this picture in Santa Fe at sunset. The light was reflecting off these clouds in the east. I tried to take a picture to the west as well—which was just as spectacular—but by the time I got across a busy street so the foreground of the shot would be pretty, the light was gone.
