September 10, 2008—Big deliveries in big trucks

Not too long after the flatbed truck left, the biggest dump truck I have ever seen pulled into the driveway. I was astounded to find that it had the full 24 yards of soil in it.

I asked the driver if he could get that rig around the corner of the house to the west side and he said he would try.

Here he is, backing the truck toward the guestroom corner. The size of the truck in comparison to the house is NOT an optical illusion. That truck was almost as tall as the ears on the guest wing.
He managed to back around the corner of the house perfectly and dumped the dirt exactly where I wanted it.
While he was maneuvering, the flatbed driver returned with his second load and helped his coworker aim the truck.
Here is the dirt. This will go into the beds in the courtyard. It will compact quite a bit, so they calculated this amount to compensate for that.
Once the dump truck was out of the way, the flatbed driver off-loaded the three pallets of flagstone and the other two pallets of rock. Three of the rock pallets are for rocking the silt pond.
This gives you a better idea of the color of the flagstone. It was one of their cheapest kinds but I think one of the prettiest. I just hope it won’t make the sidewalk concrete look olive green (yuck!).
Here is the large bed in the courtyard about half filled with dirt (along with a rather wind-blown shadow of me).
Here is the amount the dirt pile diminished to fill the big bed half way.
This is a better view of the propane tank cap which is now next to a ramp. We will put a few more blocks in front of it to keep the gravel from overwhelming it.
I showed a photo of this light fixture before, but not one with the lights on. I love the way this looks.

I finished the range hood painting and thought it looked very good. I decided to take the blue tape off. As I was pulling it off, the tape started pulling some of the paint off too. The edge is not too clean on top and bottom and will need to be touched up.

I do not have a very steady hand, and may ask Jim to do the clean-up painting for me. Other than that, I am quite happy with the way it came out. Once the range hood is waxed, it will be slightly more gold all over, and will not look so stark compared to all the other colors in the room.
