April 25, 2008—Visible progress at last!

We have flashy ears! The parapet has been flashed for stuccoing, including our ears—or as Jim calls them—our battlements.

Also notice the wire at the corner of the building. We had decided to go with rounded corners, in keeping with our southwest look. If you have been following the site for a while, you will remember that the exterior sheathing was installed slightly stepped back from the corner to help give the stucco a soft edge. Here, wire mesh is applied to give the stucco the proper shape.

Here is another view with our window grille. Kai has devised a way to set it into the wall so we can unmount it in the future if it needs repair. This is critical, because if it were integrated into the stucco, taking it out would be a much larger repair issue.
Here is a close-up of the wire mesh around the gate arch to give it the proper shape. I can’t wait to see this stuccoed in and finished.
