| April 9 2007 —Forming up the barn andguest
cottage slabs |
 |
On a foggy morning at Terra Bella Vista, we drive
up to our excellent new gate. |
 |
Forms for piers and grade beams on the guest cottage. Jim Kerr, the electrician
is standing next to the corner of the forms. |
 |
The footings are dug and the exterior forms for
the grade-beams are in. Next they will add the rebar for the grade-beams
and piers. |
 |
Rebar for the grade-beams. Because of our highly
expansive soil and our proximity to the Roger's Creek Fault, the slab
is massive, even for this tiny little building (690 square feet). |
 |
Here is the top of a pier. Our piers must be 8
feet into bedrock. Luckily, bedrock is only 4 feet down, to the piers are
12 feet total in depth. This little cottage is here to stay! |
 |
You can get a better idea of the scale of the
slabs from this view of the barn slab. Because the site slopes to the west,
the front of the slab is about 3-3.5 feet thick. |
 |
Here are some pipes—that even though we put in
ourselves—did not appear on the as-built. Luckly, Janver has been able
to locate Paul Cox, who was the project manager on the pipe installation.
He came out and talked to Janver about what is really in the ground and
will continue to help us with this. |
