December 12, 2007—Our ceiling beams are hung (for better or for worse)

Jim had stopped by on the way back from work errands and we watched the sun set. As we were standing there, an orange VW bug pulled into the driveway. “Who is that?” Jim asked.

“I think they are coming to take the fork-lift away,” I said, and I was right. Just coincidently, I had been there when the SkyTrak was delivered. Because of our steep hill, the driver had had to leave the trailer down below and drive the SkyTrak up, and his wife had come in an orange VW to pick him up.

Now, as they pulled in, I recognized the car.

Since I had my camera out snapping the sunset, I caught the fork-lift driving away, although I was almost too late!

(I swear that if a UFO landed and I had my camera in my hand, I would forget to take pictures.)

I got a better one as it drove down the road, despite the fact that it was so dark the auto-flash on the camera went off.
After it got all the way down the hill, two of our neighbors, who had waited for it to go by, made their way up the hill in the gathering dark.
Here is a view of the last of the sunset. It was a pretty good one because of the low clouds and the con-trail.

After I took that sunset picture, I took this picture and the one below. Amazingly, they came out fine. My little camera doesn’t have much in the wide-angle department, but it sure can stop up or down to accommodate the changes in light.

As you can see, the exterior sheathing in the courtyard is now complete. You now get a better idea about the feel of the house from the courtyard.

They will start framing the front wall soon. Abe has been finalizing the new design with the little roof along the front. Now that the design is finished, the wall will be framed in. It will be stuffed with an insulation something like styrofoam to make it solid so it won’t need vents.
