February 6, 2008—More Tyvek and windows
Here is another vacuum station. My guess is that the wires attach to a switch so when you plug in the hose, the vacuum turns on.
The vaccum pipe goes up through the studs into the “attic” space above.

Then it connects into the mechanical closet, along with the switch wires.

This station is outside Jim’s office.

The skylights were also installed, although Kai says they will need some adjustment because of the roofing.
Looking out the library window toward the front of the house. I cannot get over how pleased I am that we lowered the front courtyard wall down. It is going to look so nice with the little porch roof, plus I bet we will love it in the rain.

It’s hard to tell from this photo, but a cow from the dairy up the hill was standing on top of the hill with the big slide in it. It looks very small in the photo, but in real life, somehow it looked huge and precarious on that hill.

Only a few minutes later, I heard some yelling and saw an ATV coming down the hill. All the cows started ambling up the hill to be milked. I was glad that cow made it off safely!

When I went in to get the photo of the truck framed, the framing shop owner had this piece of needlework framed and for sale. I thought it would look great in the cottage and it does.

The gorgeous silvery tray on the table—which, of course, doesn’t show up in the photo very well—was a birthday gift from a very generous cousin and her partner.

I also had some baskets that I bought in Santa Fe several years ago which I hung up.

I bought a lot of the baskets because they were so cheap. The guy selling them said that they had taken Southwest Native-American designs to Pakistan and had them woven by village women. Then he told me that the women in Pakistan probably did not have any other access to livelyhood besides the weaving. The many ironies in that situation just floored me. The idea of out-sourcing culture is so weird, I just don’t even know how I feel about it.

Anyway, the baskets look good on the wall.

Here is another view of the table in the late afternoon sun . . .
. . . and another view of the living room incuding another wall basket and the newly repaired silvery lamp next to the couch.
