January 18, 2008—Hot-mop on top

Meanwhile, in the cottage, the second couch had arrived from West Elm. We made them 2nd Day Air it from San Diego, because they took so long to get another one.

After putting it together and a lot of shifting of furniture, I decided I liked it best in the corner backing up to the front porch. Originally, I had put it on the opposite wall—and since that end of the room is symmetrical, it should have gone just as well on either side. But that did not prove the case, so it is now installed as is.

About 3pm, I went off on a grand shopping trip. I needed night stands for the bedroom, art, pillows, side tables, a coffee table, a media consol, dining table and a consol table or small desk.

I scored the night stands and a coffee table (to be picked up a week from Saturday), a dining table (to be fetched on Wednesday) and two little side tables and some pillows which you see in this picture. I left the labels on the pillows until Jim can see them in person and give is yay or nay, which is why you see them sticking out.

I love the little step table by the couch on the left, but I am not so sure about it being wedged into the alcove next to the couch like that. It may be that I find another use for it in the future. Ditto with the other little table on the right, but at $34, it will work for now.

The coffee table will be bronze colored metal with a glass top and castors. It is a sort of 40’s industrial style; and also is a good size for this room, because it won’t cover up our rug too much like a larger one would. The night stands are small, square versions of the same table, but I hate it when the coffee table and end tables are the same, so I will use these in the bedroom.

I also got some additional plates and bowls to augment our yellow set. The actual color of these bowls is much more of a blood red than shows in the photo.

The bowls are a more generous size than came with the yellow set and the red plates could be used as charger plates or dinner plates with the yellow ones as salad plates. I also got a large serving bowl in the same ware.

Slowly, we are filling in the kitchen ware so the cottage is more livable. My concern now, is that we are accumulating TOO much stuff—a bad habit of ours.
